This <span class=\"dictionary\">contract<\/span> shall be separate and apart from the <span class=\"dictionary\">contract<\/span> for teaching.\n\t\t\tTermination of a separate <span class=\"dictionary\">contract<\/span> for any athletic coaching or <span class=\"dictionary\">extracurricular activity sponsorship<\/span> assignment by either <span class=\"dictionary\">party<\/span> thereto shall not constitute cause for termination of the separate teaching <span class=\"dictionary\">contract<\/span> of the coach or teacher.\n\t\t\tAll such <span class=\"dictionary\">contracts<\/span> shall require the <span class=\"dictionary\">party<\/span> intending to terminate the coaching or <span class=\"dictionary\">extracurricular activity sponsorship<\/span> <span class=\"dictionary\">contract<\/span> to give reasonable notice to the other <span class=\"dictionary\">party<\/span> before termination thereof shall become effective.\n\t\t\tFor the purposes of this section, &#8220;<span class=\"dictionary\">extracurricular activity sponsorship<\/span>&#8221; means an assignment for which a monetary supplement is received, requiring responsibility for any student organizations, clubs, or groups, such as service clubs, academic clubs and teams, cheerleading squads, student publication and literary groups, and visual and performing arts organizations except those that are conducted in conjunction with regular classroom, curriculum, or instructional programs. <a id=\"paragraph-267429\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/22.1-302\/#C\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>","plain_text":"                                 CODE OF VIRGINIA\n\n(EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2027) WRITTEN CONTRACTS REQUIRED; EXECUTION OF CONTRACTS;\nQUALIFICATIONS OF TEMPORARILY EMPLOYED TEACHERS; RULES AND REQUIREMENTS (\u00a7\n22.1-302)\n\nA. A written contract, in a form permitted by the Board of Education&#8217;s\nregulations, shall be made by the school board with each teacher employed by it,\nexcept those who are temporarily employed, before such teacher enters upon his\nduties. Such contract shall be signed in duplicate, with a copy thereof\nfurnished to both parties.\n\t\t\tThe standard 10-month contract shall include 200 days, including (i) a\nminimum of 180 teaching days or 990 instructional hours and (ii) up to 20 days\nfor activities such as teaching, participating in professional development,\nplanning, evaluating, completing records and reports, participating on\ncommittees or in conferences, or such other activities as may be assigned or\napproved by the local school board.\n\t\t\tA temporarily employed teacher, as used in this section, means (i) one who is\nemployed to substitute for a contracted teacher for a temporary period of time\nduring the contracted teacher&#8217;s absence or (ii) one who is employed to\nfill a teacher vacancy for a period of time, but for no longer than 90 teaching\ndays in such vacancy, unless otherwise approved by the Superintendent of Public\nInstruction on a case-by-case basis, during one school year.\n\nB. Temporarily employed teachers, as defined in this section, shall be at least\n18 years of age and shall hold a high school diploma or have passed a high\nschool equivalency examination approved by the Board of Education.\n\t\t\tA temporarily employed teacher is not required to be licensed by the Board of\nEducation, nor is the local school board required to enter into a written\ncontract with a temporarily employed teacher. However, local school boards shall\nestablish employment qualifications for temporarily employed teachers that may\nexceed these requirements for the employment of such teachers. School boards\nshall also seek to ensure that temporarily employed teachers who are engaged as\nlong-term substitutes exceed baseline employment qualifications.\n\nC. A separate contract in a form permitted by the Board of Education shall be\nexecuted by the school board with a teacher who is receiving a monetary\nsupplement for any athletic coaching or extracurricular activity sponsorship\nassignment.
