means any product capable of use as human food\nthat is made wholly or in part from any meat or other portion of the carcass of\nany cattle, sheep, swine, or goats. Products that contain meat or other portions\nof such carcasses only in a relatively small proportion or historically have not\nbeen considered by consumers as products of the meat food industry, and that are\nexempted from definition as a meat food product by the Commissioner under such\nconditions as he may prescribe to assure that the meat or other portions of such\ncarcass contained in such product are not adulterated and that such products are\nnot represented as meat food products. This term as applied to food products of\nequines shall have a comparable meaning.\n\t\t&#8220;Official certificate&#8221; means any certificate prescribed by\nregulations of the Board for issuance by an inspector or other person performing\nofficial functions under this article.\n\t\t&#8220;Official device&#8221; means any device prescribed or authorized by the\nCommissioner for use in applying any official mark.\n\t\t&#8220;Official establishment&#8221; means any establishment as determined by\nthe Commissioner at which inspection of the slaughter of livestock or poultry or\nthe preparation of livestock products or poultry products is maintained under\nthe authority of this article.\n\t\t&#8220;Official inspection legend&#8221; means any symbol prescribed by\nregulations of the Board showing that an article was inspected and passed in\naccordance with this article.\n\t\t&#8220;Official mark&#8221; means the official inspection legend or any other\nsymbol prescribed by regulations of the Board to identify the status of any\narticle or livestock or poultry under this article.\n\t\t&#8220;Pesticide chemical,&#8221; &#8220;food additive,&#8221; &#8220;color\nadditive,&#8221; and &#8220;raw agricultural commodity&#8221; shall have the\nsame meanings for purposes of this article as under the Federal Food, Drug, and\nCosmetic Act (21 U.S.C. \u00a7 321 et seq.).\n\t\t&#8220;Poultry&#8221; means any domesticated bird, whether live or dead.\n\t\t&#8220;Poultry product&#8221; means any poultry carcass or part thereof; or\nany product that is made wholly or in part from any poultry carcass or part\nthereof, excepting products that contain poultry ingredients only in a\nrelatively small proportion or historically have not been considered by\nconsumers as products of the poultry food industry, and that are exempted by the\nCommissioner from definition as a poultry product under such conditions as he\nmay prescribe to assure that the poultry ingredients in such products are not\nadulterated and that such products are not represented as poultry products.\n\t\t&#8220;Prepared&#8221; means slaughtered, canned, salted, stuffed, rendered,\nboned, cut up, or otherwise manufactured or processed.\n\t\t&#8220;Render&#8221; means any person engaged in the business of rendering\nlivestock or poultry carcasses, or parts of products of such carcasses, except\nrendering conducted under inspection or exemption under this article.\n\t\t&#8220;Shipping container&#8221; means any container used or intended for use\nin packaging the product packed in an immediate container.\n\nHISTORY: 1970, c. 290, \u00a7 3.1-884.18; 2008, c. 860; 2020, c. 318.","edition":{"id":1,"name":"2025","slug":"2025","date_created":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","date_modified":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","current":1,"order_by":1,"last_import":null}}
