and4\n\nNational Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 105-3, Specifications and Tolerances for Reference Standards and Field Standard Weights and Measures, Specifications and Tolerances for Graduated Neck Type Volumetric Field Standards, and supplements thereto, or any publication revising or superseding the publications specified in this definition.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Condemnation tag&#8221; National Institute of Standards and Technology Handbook 105-3, Specifications\nand Tolerances for Reference Standards and Field Standard Weights and Measures,\nSpecifications and Tolerances for Graduated Neck Type Volumetric Field\nStandards, and supplements thereto, or any publication revising or superseding\nthe publications specified in this definition.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Condemnation tag&#8221; means a tag applied to a weight or measure\nthat fails to pass an official inspection, the application of which tag requires\nthe immediate removal of the weight or measure from service.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Official inspection&#8221; means an inspection by the Commissioner of\na commercially used weight or measure pursuant to &#xA7; 3.2-5609.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Rejection tag&#8221; means a tag applied to a weight or measure that\nfails to pass an official inspection, the application of which tag requires the\nremoval of the weight or measure from service if the weight or measure is not\nadjusted to conform to requirements specified by the Weights and Measures Act of\nVirginia (&#xA7; 3.2-5600 et seq.) or any regulation adopted hereunder.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Service agency&#8221; means: (i) a business; or (ii) that portion of a\ngovernment or political subdivision engaged in the adjustment, installation,\nplacing in service, recommending for use, reconditioning, repairing, servicing,\nor selling of any weight or measure commercially used or employed (a) in\nestablishing the size, quantity, extent, area, or measurement of quantities,\nthings, products, or articles for distribution or consumption, purchased,\noffered, or submitted for sale, hire, or award, or (b) in computing any basic\ncharge or payment for services rendered on the basis of something&#8217;s weight\nor its measure.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Service technician&#8221; means any individual who for hire, award,\ncommission, or any other payment of any kind, adjusts, installs, places in\nservice, recommends for use, reconditions, repairs, services, or sells a\ncommercial weight or measure.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Standard&#8221; means a required basis for conformance, adjustment, or\nverification.\n\t\t\t&#8220;System&#8221; means the grouping of interacting, interrelated, or\ninterdependent weights or measures to form a complex whole.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Traceability&#8221; means an accounting of the relationship of the\ncalibration of a weight or measure standard or calibrating equipment to a\nnational standard maintained or adopted by the National Institute of Standards\nand Technology of the U.S. Department of Commerce.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Weight or measure&#8221; means the terms as defined in &#xA7; 3.2-5600\nand shall also include the term &#8220;system&#8221; as defined in this chapter.\n\nHISTORY: 1992, c. 242, \u00a7 3.1-969.1; 2008, c. 860.","edition":{"id":1,"name":"2025","slug":"2025","date_created":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","date_modified":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","current":1,"order_by":1,"last_import":null}}
