For the purpose of this chapter, “eligible student” means a\nperson who resided in a jurisdiction in Virginia between 1954 and 1964 in which\nthe public schools were closed to avoid desegregation and who (i) was unable\nduring such years to (a) begin, continue, or complete his education in the\npublic schools of the Commonwealth, (b) ineligible to attend a private academy\nor foundation, whether in state or out of state, established to circumvent\ndesegregation, or (c) pursue postsecondary education opportunities or training\nbecause of the inability to obtain a high school diploma or (ii) was required to\nrelocate within or outside of the Commonwealth to begin, continue, or complete\nhis public education during such years because public schools were closed to\navoid desegregation. “Eligible student” also means a lineal or\ncollateral descendant of such person. “Eligible student” includes\nonly persons currently domiciled and residing in the Commonwealth.\n\nHISTORY: 2005, cc. 753, 834; 2006, c. 518; 2009, c. 444; 2010, c. 579; 2014, c.\n84; 2023, cc. 605, 606.","edition":{"id":1,"name":"2025","slug":"2025","date_created":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","date_modified":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","current":1,"order_by":1,"last_import":null}}
