Have had valid registration issued by the Department at the time the member\nof the armed services of the United States, member of the diplomatic service,\ncivilian employee of the United States government, or any agency or contractor\nthereof began service outside of the United States;\n\n3. Comply with the financial responsibility requirements of this title;\n\n4. Display the latest license plates and decals issued by the Department for the\nvehicle; and\n\n5. Be operated only by persons qualifying under this section while possessing:\n\t\t\ta. Orders or other military documentation demonstrating that they are\nentitled to the benefits of this section; and\n\t\t\tb. The latest registration card issued by the Department for the vehicle.\n\t\t\tNothing in this section shall be construed to prohibit any person or persons\nwho own or lease vehicles registered in the Commonwealth and are currently\nserving outside of the United States in the armed services of the United States\nfrom complying, when possible and as necessary, with the vehicle registration\nrequirements of this title during the period of service outside the United\nStates or while on leave in Virginia.\n\t\t\tFor the purposes of this section “the armed services of the United\nStates” includes active duty service with the regular Armed Forces of the\nUnited States or the National Guard or other reserve component.\n\t\t\tThe provisions of this section shall not apply to special license plates\nissued to members of the National Guard under § 46.2-744.\n\nHISTORY: 2004, c. 975; 2008, c. 591; 2012, c. 385.","edition":{"id":1,"name":"2025","slug":"2025","date_created":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","date_modified":"2026-06-21 22:39:22","current":1,"order_by":1,"last_import":null}}
