means the District of Columbia, Maryland, North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, or West Virginia.B\n\nExcept as provided in subsection D, the regulatory boards within the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation shall, upon application by an individual, recognize licenses or certificates issued by another state as fulfillment of qualifications for licensure or government certification in the Commonwealth if the following conditions are met:1\n\nThe individual holds a current and valid professional or occupational license or government certification in another state in a profession or occupation with a similar scope of practice, as determined by the board in the Commonwealth;2\n\nThe individual has held the professional or occupational license or government certification in the other state for at least three years;3\n\nThe board in the other state or state of original licensure required the individual to pass an examination and to meet certain standards related to education, training, or experience;4\n\nThere are no pending investigations or unresolved complaints against the individual, and the board in the other state holds the individual in good standing;5\n\nThe individual does not have a disqualifying criminal record as determined by the board in the Commonwealth in accordance with &#xA7; 54.1-204;6\n\nNo board in another state has imposed discipline on the licensee, except for discipline involving only a financial penalty and no harm to the health or economic well-being of the public; and7\n\nThe individual pays all applicable fees.C\n\nExcept as provided in subsection D, the regulatory boards within the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation shall, upon application by an individual, recognize work experience in another state as fulfillment of qualifications for licensure or government certification in the Commonwealth if the following conditions are met:1\n\nThe individual worked in another state that does not use a professional or occupational license or government certification to regulate a profession or occupation, but the Commonwealth uses a professional or occupational license or government certification to regulate a profession or occupation with a similar scope of practice, as determined by the board;2\n\nThe individual has worked in the profession or occupation for at least three years;3\n\nThe individual passes any examination required by the board of applicants for licensure or certification; and4\n\nThe individual satisfies the conditions outlined in subdivisions B 5, 6, and 7.D\n\nThe Real Estate Appraiser Board, the Real Estate Board, the Board for Waste Management Facility Operators, and the Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals shall, upon application by an individual, and without examination, immediately recognize the licenses or certificates issued by a neighboring state as fulfillment of qualifications for licensure in the Commonwealth if the following conditions are met:1\n\nThe individual holds a current and valid professional or occupational license or government certification in a neighboring state in a profession or occupation with a similar scope of practice, as determined by the board in the Commonwealth;2\n\nThere are no pending investigations or unresolved complaints against the individual, and the other state holds the individual in good standing;3\n\nThe individual does not have a disqualifying criminal record as determined by the board in accordance with &#xA7; 54.1-204; and4\n\nNo other state has imposed discipline on the licensee, except for discipline involving only a financial penalty and no harm to the health or economic well-being of the public.E\n\nThe regulatory boards within the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation may require an individual seeking a professional or occupational licensure or government certification pursuant to this section to pass a jurisprudential examination specific to relevant state laws and administrative rules that regulate such profession or occupation if such an examination is required of other applicants for the same license or certification.F\n\nThis section shall not apply to any professional services, as defined in &#xA7; and <a id=\"paragraph-280673\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#C3\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"C4\" class=\"indent-1\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">4.<\/span> The individual satisfies the conditions outlined in subdivisions B 5, 6, and 7. <a id=\"paragraph-280674\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#C4\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"D\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">D.<\/span> The Real Estate Appraiser Board, the Real Estate Board, the Board for Waste Management Facility Operators, and the Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works Operators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals shall, upon application by an individual, and without examination, immediately recognize the licenses or certificates issued by a <span class=\"dictionary\">neighboring state<\/span> as fulfillment of qualifications for licensure in the Commonwealth if the following conditions are met: <a id=\"paragraph-280675\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#D\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"D1\" class=\"indent-1\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">1.<\/span> The individual holds a current and valid professional or occupational license or government certification in a <span class=\"dictionary\">neighboring state<\/span> in a profession or occupation with a similar scope of practice, as determined by the board in the Commonwealth; <a id=\"paragraph-280676\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#D1\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"D2\" class=\"indent-1\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">2.<\/span> There are no pending investigations or unresolved complaints against the individual, and the <span class=\"dictionary\">other state<\/span> holds the individual in good standing; <a id=\"paragraph-280677\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#D2\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"D3\" class=\"indent-1\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">3.<\/span> The individual does not have a disqualifying criminal record as determined by the board in accordance with &#xA7; <a class=\"law\" title=\"Prior convictions not to abridge rights\" href=\"\/54.1-204\/\">54.1-204<\/a>; and <a id=\"paragraph-280678\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#D3\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"D4\" class=\"indent-1\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">4.<\/span> No <span class=\"dictionary\">other state<\/span> has imposed discipline on the licensee, except for discipline involving only a financial <span class=\"dictionary\">penalty<\/span> and no harm to the health or economic well-being of the public. <a id=\"paragraph-280679\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#D4\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"E\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">E.<\/span> The regulatory boards within the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation may require an individual seeking a professional or occupational licensure or government certification pursuant to this section to pass a jurisprudential examination specific to relevant state <span class=\"dictionary\">laws<\/span> and administrative rules that regulate such profession or occupation if such an examination is required of other applicants for the same license or certification. <a id=\"paragraph-280680\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#E\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section id=\"F\"><p><span class=\"prefix-number\">F.<\/span> This section shall not apply to any professional services, as defined in &#xA7; <a class=\"law\" title=\"Definitions\" href=\"\/2.2-4301\/\">2.2-4301<\/a>. <a id=\"paragraph-280681\" class=\"section-permalink\" href=\"https:\/\/vacode.org\/54.1-205\/#F\"><i class=\"fa fa-link\"><\/i><\/a><\/p><\/section>","plain_text":"                                 CODE OF VIRGINIA\n\nUNIVERSAL LICENSE RECOGNITION (\u00a7 54.1-205)\n\nA. For purposes of this section,\n\t\t\t&#8220;Another state&#8221; or &#8220;other state&#8221; means any state,\nterritory, possession, or jurisdiction of the United States.\n\t\t\t&#8220;Neighboring state&#8221; means the District of Columbia, Maryland,\nNorth Carolina, Kentucky, Tennessee, or West Virginia.\n\nB. Except as provided in subsection D, the regulatory boards within the\nDepartment of Professional and Occupational Regulation shall, upon application\nby an individual, recognize licenses or certificates issued by another state as\nfulfillment of qualifications for licensure or government certification in the\nCommonwealth if the following conditions are met:\n\n   1. The individual holds a current and valid professional or occupational\n   license or government certification in another state in a profession or\n   occupation with a similar scope of practice, as determined by the board in the\n   Commonwealth;\n\n   2. The individual has held the professional or occupational license or\n   government certification in the other state for at least three years;\n\n   3. The board in the other state or state of original licensure required the\n   individual to pass an examination and to meet certain standards related to\n   education, training, or experience;\n\n   4. There are no pending investigations or unresolved complaints against the\n   individual, and the board in the other state holds the individual in good\n   standing;\n\n   5. The individual does not have a disqualifying criminal record as determined\n   by the board in the Commonwealth in accordance with &#xA7; 54.1-204;\n\n   6. No board in another state has imposed discipline on the licensee, except\n   for discipline involving only a financial penalty and no harm to the health or\n   economic well-being of the public; and\n\n   7. The individual pays all applicable fees.\n\nC. Except as provided in subsection D, the regulatory boards within the\nDepartment of Professional and Occupational Regulation shall, upon application\nby an individual, recognize work experience in another state as fulfillment of\nqualifications for licensure or government certification in the Commonwealth if\nthe following conditions are met:\n\n   1. The individual worked in another state that does not use a professional or\n   occupational license or government certification to regulate a profession or\n   occupation, but the Commonwealth uses a professional or occupational license\n   or government certification to regulate a profession or occupation with a\n   similar scope of practice, as determined by the board;\n\n   2. The individual has worked in the profession or occupation for at least\n   three years;\n\n   3. The individual passes any examination required by the board of applicants\n   for licensure or certification; and\n\n   4. The individual satisfies the conditions outlined in subdivisions B 5, 6,\n   and 7.\n\nD. The Real Estate Appraiser Board, the Real Estate Board, the Board for Waste\nManagement Facility Operators, and the Board for Waterworks and Wastewater Works\nOperators and Onsite Sewage System Professionals shall, upon application by an\nindividual, and without examination, immediately recognize the licenses or\ncertificates issued by a neighboring state as fulfillment of qualifications for\nlicensure in the Commonwealth if the following conditions are met:\n\n   1. The individual holds a current and valid professional or occupational\n   license or government certification in a neighboring state in a profession or\n   occupation with a similar scope of practice, as determined by the board in the\n   Commonwealth;\n\n   2. There are no pending investigations or unresolved complaints against the\n   individual, and the other state holds the individual in good standing;\n\n   3. The individual does not have a disqualifying criminal record as determined\n   by the board in accordance with &#xA7; 54.1-204; and\n\n   4. No other state has imposed discipline on the licensee, except for\n   discipline involving only a financial penalty and no harm to the health or\n   economic well-being of the public.\n\nE. The regulatory boards within the Department of Professional and Occupational\nRegulation may require an individual seeking a professional or occupational\nlicensure or government certification pursuant to this section to pass a\njurisprudential examination specific to relevant state laws and administrative\nrules that regulate such profession or occupation if such an examination is\nrequired of other applicants for the same license or certification.\n\nF.
