APPOINTMENT AND QUALIFICATION (§ 22.1-21)

The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall be appointed by the Governor,
after consultation with the Board of Education among others, subject to
confirmation by the General Assembly, for a term coincident with that of the
Governor making the appointment. Any vacancy shall be filled in the same manner.
The Superintendent of Public Instruction shall be an experienced educator.
