						<section><p>The <span class="dictionary">governing body</span> of any <span class="dictionary">county</span> may require monthly financial reports from any officer or office of the <span class="dictionary">county</span> or of any district thereof and may investigate bills and receipts of any <span class="dictionary">county</span> or district officer, and for these purposes may <span class="dictionary">subpoena</span> witnesses, administer <span class="dictionary">oaths</span> and require the production of books, papers and other <span class="dictionary">evidence</span>. Any <span class="dictionary">witness</span> who fails or refuses to obey any such lawful <span class="dictionary">order</span> of the <span class="dictionary">governing body</span> shall be guilty of a <span class="dictionary">misdemeanor</span>.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 15-263; 1962, c. 623, &#xA7; 15.1-556; 1997, c. 587.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
