						<section><p>The <span class="dictionary">governing body</span> of the <span class="dictionary">locality</span> may appoint or provide for the appointment as auxiliary police officers as many persons of good character as it deems necessary, not to exceed the number fixed by <span class="dictionary">ordinance</span> adopted by the <span class="dictionary">governing body</span>, and their appointment shall be revocable at any time by the <span class="dictionary">governing body</span>. The <span class="dictionary">governing body</span> may prescribe the uniform, organization, and such rules as it deems necessary for the operation of the auxiliary police force.</p></section></text><history>1968, c. 157, &#xA7; 15.1-159.4; 1997, c. 587.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
