						<section><p>Whenever a <span class="dictionary">locality</span> leases or purchases any gas, electric or water plant operating within territory contiguous to the <span class="dictionary">locality</span>, the <span class="dictionary">locality</span> so leasing or purchasing shall have all of the rights, <span class="dictionary">privileges</span> and franchises of the person from which the property was leased or purchased and the power to operate, maintain and extend service lines in all the territory which the plant so leased or purchased had the right to do. Any <span class="dictionary">locality</span> leasing or purchasing any property hereunder shall be obligated to furnish, from the property so leased or purchased, or from any other source, an adequate supply of gas, electricity or water to the consumers of any person whose plant was leased or purchased. In the exercise of the powers granted by this section, localities shall be subject to the provisions of &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Condemnation of property of corporations possessing power of eminent domain" href="/25.1-102/">25.1-102</a> to the same extent as are corporations.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 15-716; 1962, c. 623, &#xA7; 15.1-293; 1997, c. 587; 2003, c. 940.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
