						<section><p>At the session of the General Assembly following its incorporation, the <span class="dictionary">town</span> shall request the General Assembly to grant it a charter.
		No <span class="dictionary">judge</span> shall grant a <span class="dictionary">town</span> a charter. Until a <span class="dictionary">town</span> is granted a charter by the General Assembly, the <span class="dictionary">town</span>&#x2019;s affairs shall be conducted exclusively under the provisions of general <span class="dictionary">law</span>.</p></section></text><history>1980, c. 45, &#xA7; 15.1-967.2; 1997, c. 587.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
