						<section><p>If a <span class="dictionary">town</span> becomes a <span class="dictionary">city</span> under this chapter, the sergeant of the <span class="dictionary">town</span>, if there is one, shall be the sheriff of the <span class="dictionary">city</span> and discharge all the duties imposed on him by the charter or by general <span class="dictionary">law</span>. The sheriff&#x2019;s duties and compensation shall be such as are provided by <span class="dictionary">law</span> for <span class="dictionary">town</span> sergeants.
