						<section><p>In addition to the authority given by general <span class="dictionary">law</span> to cities, a <span class="dictionary">city</span> organized under this chapter may acquire in accordance with &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Purchase, sale, use, etc., of real property" href="/15.2-1800/">15.2-1800</a> or construct, own and operate, its own plant, machinery and equipment for supplying its inhabitants, streets, grounds, or buildings with water, light, power or fuel. To that end it may acquire any plant existing in or near the <span class="dictionary">city</span>; may acquire land and franchises outside of the limits of the <span class="dictionary">city</span>; and may buy, purchase or acquire easements and rights-of-way.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 15-106; 1962, c. 623, &#xA7; 15.1-1007; 1997, c. 587.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
