						<section><p>After the date of adoption of the urban <span class="dictionary">county</span> executive form of government, a <span class="dictionary">city</span> contiguous to or within the limits of such a <span class="dictionary">county</span> may <span class="dictionary">petition</span>, by action of its <span class="dictionary">governing body</span>, to become a part of the <span class="dictionary">county</span> on terms set forth in a resolution adopted by the board. Passage of a <span class="dictionary">referendum</span> within the petitioning <span class="dictionary">city</span> shall constitute approval of the <span class="dictionary">city</span> becoming a district of the <span class="dictionary">county</span> or a part or parts of one or more districts and action of the board shall constitute final approval thereof by the <span class="dictionary">county</span>.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 15-384.73; 1960, c. 382; 1962, c. 623, &#xA7; 15.1-786; 1997, c. 587.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
