						<section><p>In cases involving the violation of any <span class="dictionary">law</span>, regulation or <span class="dictionary">ordinance</span> for the education, protection or care of children or involving <span class="dictionary">offenses</span> committed by one <span class="dictionary">family or household member</span> against another, the <span class="dictionary">juvenile court</span> or the <span class="dictionary">circuit</span> court may impose a <span class="dictionary">penalty</span> prescribed by applicable sections of the Code and may impose conditions and limitations upon the <span class="dictionary">defendant</span> to protect the health or safety of <span class="dictionary">family or household members</span>, including, but not limited to, a protective <span class="dictionary">order</span> as provided in &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Protective order in cases of family abuse" href="/16.1-279.1/">16.1-279.1</a>, treatment and counseling for the <span class="dictionary">defendant</span> and payment by the <span class="dictionary">defendant</span> for crisis <span class="dictionary">shelter care</span> for the complaining <span class="dictionary">family or household member</span>.</p></section></text><history>1991, c. 534; 1992, c. 742; 1996, c. 866.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
