						<section><p>An officer, who shall be called a &#x201C;fire marshal,&#x201D; may be appointed for each county, city or town, by the governing body thereof, whenever, in the <span class="dictionary">opinion</span> of such body, the appointment shall be deemed expedient. The term &#x201C;fire marshal&#x201D; as used in this chapter may include the local fire official and local <span class="dictionary">arson</span> investigator when appointed pursuant to this section.</p></section></text><history>Code 1919, &#xA7; 3137; 1970, c. 187; 1977, c. 334; 1984, c. 644.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
