						<section><p>A person shall not purchase <span class="dictionary">shellfish</span> or finfish from any fisherman who is known by such person to have not registered as a commercial fisherman as required by &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Registration of commercial fishermen required; exemption; penalty" href="/28.2-241/">28.2-241</a>. Whenever a <span class="dictionary">court</span> finds that a <span class="dictionary">defendant</span> has violated the provisions of this section, the <span class="dictionary">court</span> shall assess a civil <span class="dictionary">penalty</span> of $500. All civil penalties assessed pursuant to this section shall be paid into the Marine <span class="dictionary">Fishing</span> Improvement Fund as established in &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Marine Fishing Improvement Fund continued" href="/28.2-208/">28.2-208</a>.</p></section></text><history>1992, cc. 493, 503.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
