						<section><p>The <span class="dictionary">Board</span>, upon <span class="dictionary">petition</span> by a group of <span class="dictionary">corn</span> <span class="dictionary">producers</span> representing at least 10 percent of the number of the Commonwealth&#x2019;s <span class="dictionary">corn</span> <span class="dictionary">producers</span> as determined by the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span>, may provide for a <span class="dictionary">referendum</span> on the continuation of the assessment. If the Governor shall determine that a simple majority of those voting are not in favor of the assessment, the <span class="dictionary">Board</span> shall hold no new referenda for at least one year after the Governor has declared his <span class="dictionary">findings</span>, and then only after receiving a <span class="dictionary">petition</span> signed by at least 10 percent of the number of the Commonwealth&#x2019;s <span class="dictionary">corn</span> <span class="dictionary">producers</span>. The cost of conducting any such <span class="dictionary">referendum</span> as above prescribed shall come from funds paid into the Virginia <span class="dictionary">Corn</span> Fund as defined in &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Virginia Corn Fund established" href="/3.2-1411/">3.2-1411</a>. The <span class="dictionary">Board</span> shall adopt regulations governing the conduct of referenda pursuant to &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Regulations governing the conduct of referenda" href="/3.2-112/">3.2-112</a>.</p></section></text><history>1980, c. 395, &#xA7; 3.1-1041; 2008, c. 860.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
