						<section><p>The governing body of each city and county for which a <span class="dictionary">sealer</span> has been appointed as provided for by &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Appointment, terms and compensation of local sealers of weights and measures; discontinuance of local program" href="/3.2-5615/">3.2-5615</a> of this chapter shall: (i) procure at the expense of the city or county, as the case may be, such standards of <span class="dictionary">weight</span> and measure and such additional equipment, to be used for the enforcement of the provisions of this chapter in such city or county, as may be prescribed by the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span>; (ii) provide a suitable office for the <span class="dictionary">sealer</span>; and (iii) make provisions for the necessary clerical services, supplies, and transportation, and for defraying contingent expenses incident to the official activities of the <span class="dictionary">sealer</span> in carrying out the provisions of this chapter. When the standards of <span class="dictionary">weight</span> and measure required by this section to be provided by a city or county shall have been examined and approved by the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span>, they shall be the official standards for such city or county. It shall be the duty of the <span class="dictionary">sealer</span> to make, or to arrange to have made, at least as frequently as once a year, comparison between his field standards and appropriate standards of a higher <span class="dictionary">order</span> belonging to his city or county or to the Commonwealth, in <span class="dictionary">order</span> to maintain such field standards in accurate condition.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7;&#xA7; 3-708.22, 59-89; 1962, c. 298; 1966, c. 702, &#xA7; 3.1-940; 2008, c. 860.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
