						<section><p>The <span class="dictionary">Department</span> shall establish and operate a separate geriatric unit within each <span class="dictionary">state</span> <span class="dictionary">facility</span> that serves significant numbers of elderly <span class="dictionary">individuals</span>. Each unit shall provide care and treatment for those <span class="dictionary">individuals</span> and shall be separated in a reasonable manner from the rest of the <span class="dictionary">state</span> <span class="dictionary">facility</span>.
		The <span class="dictionary">Board</span> may, giving full consideration to the needs and resources available, authorize the establishment of free-standing <span class="dictionary">state</span> facilities for elderly <span class="dictionary">individuals</span> receiving services.</p></section></text><history>1974, c. 402, &#xA7; 37.1-24.2; 1980, c. 582; 2005, c. 716; 2012, cc. 476, 507.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
