						<section><p>Except as otherwise provided in this title, an appointment of a licensed agent authorizes that <span class="dictionary">person</span> to <span class="dictionary">sell</span>, <span class="dictionary">solicit</span>, or <span class="dictionary">negotiate</span> any one or more of the classes of <span class="dictionary">insurance</span> (i) for which the agent is licensed in this Commonwealth and (ii) for which the appointing <span class="dictionary">insurer</span> is also licensed in this Commonwealth. However, an agent holding a <span class="dictionary">license</span> that includes both life and health and property and casualty authorities shall be required to obtain both a life and health and a property and casualty appointment if the agent intends to <span class="dictionary">sell</span>, <span class="dictionary">solicit</span>, or <span class="dictionary">negotiate</span> both types of <span class="dictionary">insurance</span>, and an <span class="dictionary">insurer</span> shall be required to appoint any such agent for both life and health and property and casualty if the <span class="dictionary">insurer</span> intends to authorize the agent to <span class="dictionary">sell</span>, <span class="dictionary">solicit</span>, or <span class="dictionary">negotiate</span> both types of <span class="dictionary">insurance</span> on its behalf.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 38.1-303; 1952, c. 317; 1979, c. 513, &#xA7; 38.1-327.38; 1986, c. 562; 1987, c. 521; 2001, c. 706.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
