						<section><p>If any <span class="dictionary"><span class="dictionary">law</span>-enforcement officer</span> appointed by the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span> is arrested, indicted, or prosecuted on any charge arising out of any act committed in the discharge of his official duties, the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span> may employ special <span class="dictionary">counsel</span> approved by the <span class="dictionary">Attorney General</span> to defend him. The compensation for special <span class="dictionary">counsel</span> employed pursuant to this section shall, subject to approval of the <span class="dictionary">Attorney General</span>, be paid out of the funds appropriated for the administration of the <span class="dictionary">Department</span>.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 46-41; 1958, c. 541, &#xA7; 46.1-40; 1989, c. 727.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
