						<section><p>The <span class="dictionary">Department</span>, upon determining, after an examination, that an applicant is mentally, physically, and otherwise qualified to receive a license, may <span class="dictionary">issue</span> to him a temporary <span class="dictionary">driver</span>&#x2019;s permit entitling him, while having the permit in his immediate <span class="dictionary">possession</span>, to drive a <span class="dictionary">motor vehicle</span> on the <span class="dictionary"><span class="dictionary">highways</span></span>. The temporary <span class="dictionary">driver</span>&#x2019;s permit shall be valid until receipt of the <span class="dictionary">driver</span>&#x2019;s license but in no case shall be valid for more than 90 days from the date of issuance.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 46-372; 1958, c. 541, &#xA7; 46.1-377; 1984, c. 780; 1989, c. 727; 2009, c. 872.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
