						<section><p>On any reasonable ground appearing in the records of the <span class="dictionary">Department</span>, the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span> may, when he deems it necessary for the safety of the public on the <span class="dictionary"><span class="dictionary">highways</span></span> in the Commonwealth and after notice as provided in &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Contents of notice of hearing" href="/46.2-403/">46.2-403</a> and <span class="dictionary">hearing</span> as provided in &#xA7;&#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Where and before whom hearing held" href="/46.2-404/">46.2-404</a>, <a class="law" title="How hearings to be conducted" href="/46.2-405/">46.2-405</a>, <a class="law" title="Appointment and authority of hearing officers" href="/46.2-406/">46.2-406</a> and <a class="law" title="Form and contents of decision; copies" href="/46.2-407/">46.2-407</a> <span class="dictionary">suspend</span> or <span class="dictionary">revoke</span> for no more than five years, and not reissue during the period of <span class="dictionary">suspension</span> or <span class="dictionary">revocation</span>, the <span class="dictionary">driver</span>&#x2019;s license of any person who is a violator of any of the provisions of this title punishable as felonies, <span class="dictionary">misdemeanors</span>, or <span class="dictionary">traffic infractions</span> and he may <span class="dictionary">suspend</span> or <span class="dictionary">revoke</span> for a like period, and not reissue during the period of <span class="dictionary">suspension</span> or <span class="dictionary">revocation</span>, any or all of his registration cards and <span class="dictionary">license plates</span> for any <span class="dictionary">motor vehicle</span>.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 46-423; 1952, c. 544; 1958, c. 541, &#xA7; 46.1-436; 1974, c. 453; 1984, c. 780; 1989, c. 727.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
