						<section><p>On receipt of an application and written <span class="dictionary">evidence</span> that the applicant is or has been, while serving in the armed forces of the United States, a member of a military <span class="dictionary">assault</span> force, the <span class="dictionary">Commissioner</span> shall <span class="dictionary">issue</span> to the applicant special <span class="dictionary">license plates</span>. For the purposes of this section, a military <span class="dictionary">assault</span> force is a unit or element of the armed forces of the United States engaged in or charged with the invasion or capture of territory under the control of enemy forces.
		The provisions of subdivisions 1 and 2 of subsection B of &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Special license plates, generally" href="/46.2-725/">46.2-725</a> shall not apply to <span class="dictionary">license plates</span> issued under this section.
		Unremarried surviving spouses of persons eligible to receive special <span class="dictionary">license plates</span> under this section may also be issued special <span class="dictionary">license plates</span> under this section.</p></section></text><history>1991, c. 108; 1995, c. 747; 2023, c. 539.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
