						<section><p>Persons already commissioned as notaries public or electronic notaries public pursuant to this title and who are submitting application for recommission as a notary or electronic notary may submit applications to the <span class="dictionary">Secretary</span> in person, by first-class mail, or online, provided online applications contain <span class="dictionary">electronic signatures</span>, authorized by the Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (&#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Title" href="/59.1-479/">59.1-479</a> et seq.). No person applying for recommission shall be required to include the <span class="dictionary">oath</span> of the applicant required for commission by &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Application" href="/47.1-5/">47.1-5</a>, provided that such applicant is in good standing as a notary public or <span class="dictionary">electronic notary public</span>, is not subject to any investigation or proceeding, and has never been removed from office pursuant to Chapter 5 (&#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Removal of notary by administrative process; surrender of commission; penalty" href="/47.1-24/">47.1-24</a> et seq.).</p></section></text><history>2011, cc. 123, 177; 2014, c. 703; 2024, c. 569.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
