						<section><p>In the furtherance of its responsibility to ensure continued practitioner competency, the <span class="dictionary">Board</span> of Medicine may <span class="dictionary">endorse</span> the Medical Society of Virginia&#x2019;s Guidelines for the Use of Opioids in the Management of Chronic, Non-Cancer Pain, developed and adopted in 1997.
		For the purpose of this section, &#x201C;<span class="dictionary">endorse</span>&#x201D; means to publicize and distribute such guidelines as providing an appropriate standard of care; however, the <span class="dictionary">Board</span>&#x2019;s endorsement shall not be construed to mean that the guidelines must be followed or are regulations or are in any way intended to be enforceable <span class="dictionary">law</span>.</p></section></text><history>1998, c. 496.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
