						<section><p>Whenever the Governor has reason to believe that the treasurer of any county or city of the Commonwealth or any other officer charged with the collection of the public revenues has failed to execute and perform the duties required of such officer by the <span class="dictionary">laws</span> of the Commonwealth with reference to the collection and <span class="dictionary">disposition</span> of, and accounting for, the revenue, he may institute an ouster proceeding against such officer under &#xA7;&#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Applicability of article; certain exceptions" href="/24.2-230/">24.2-230</a> to <a class="law" title="Costs" href="/24.2-238/">24.2-238</a>. In such proceeding the Commonwealth shall be represented by the <span class="dictionary">Attorney General</span> or by special <span class="dictionary">counsel</span> selected by the Governor should the Governor so direct.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 58-953; 1971, Ex.
