						<section><p>No <span class="dictionary">employer</span> shall discharge an <span class="dictionary">employee</span> or terminate a <span class="dictionary">contract</span> with an <span class="dictionary">independent contractor</span> solely for reason that a voluntary assignment of earnings under &#xA7;&#xA0;<a class="law" title="Assignment of earnings to be honored; inapplicability of &#xA7; 40.1-31" href="/63.2-1945/">63.2-1945</a> has been presented in <span class="dictionary">settlement</span> of a support <span class="dictionary">debt</span> or that a support <span class="dictionary">lien</span> or <span class="dictionary">order</span> to withhold and deliver has been served against such <span class="dictionary">employee</span>&#x2019;s or <span class="dictionary">independent contractor</span>&#x2019;s earnings or <span class="dictionary">income</span>.</p></section></text><history>1974, c. 413, &#xA7; 63.1-271; 1976, c. 357; 1977, c. 662; 1985, c. 488; 1986, c. 594; 2002, c. 747; 2020, c. 722.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
