						<section><p>The governing body of each county and city shall each year appropriate sums of money sufficient to provide for the payment of <span class="dictionary">public assistance</span> and to provide <span class="dictionary">social services</span>, including cost of administration, under the provisions of Subtitles II and III of this title, within such county or city. Such governing bodies may also appropriate sums of money sufficient to provide for the full range of <span class="dictionary">public assistance</span> and <span class="dictionary">social services</span> for children and adults as may be required by federal legislation for reimbursement thereunder. The respective governing bodies of the counties and cities shall also appropriate sums of money as shall be sufficient to provide for the foster care of children in the <span class="dictionary">custody</span> or under the supervision of the <span class="dictionary">local boards</span>.</p></section></text><history>Code 1950, &#xA7; 63-105; 1956, c. 641; 1958, c. 388; 1968, cc. 578, 666, &#xA7; 63.1-91; 2002, c. 747.</history><metadata></metadata></law>
