DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC UTILITIES (§ 15.2-843)

The department of public utilities, if and when established, shall be under the
supervision of a director of public utilities. Such department shall be in
charge of construction, operation, maintenance and administration of all public
works coming under the general category of public utilities, owned, operated and
controlled by any such county or district or any sanitary district of such
county. Such department shall be responsible for the administration of the
affairs of the sanitary districts, including but not limited to water systems,
sewer systems, sewage disposal systems, garbage and any other sanitary district
functions not assigned or administered by other departments or agencies. If the
county has a division of fire protection and a fire chief under the provisions
of § 15.2-842 then such fire protection shall not be under the department of
public utilities.
