COURTS MAY CONDUCT PRELIMINARY EXAMINATIONS (§ 16.1-127)

In addition to the power and authority conferred by this chapter on courts not
of record having criminal jurisdiction, each such court shall have power to
conduct preliminary examinations of persons charged with crime within its
jurisdiction in the manner prescribed in Chapter 7 (§ 19.2-71 et seq.) of Title
19.2.
