ACTING CHIEF JUDGE (§ 16.1-69.11:1)

If the chief judge of a district court is unable to perform the duties required
by law, the chief judge shall notify the other judges of such district court, or
if the chief judge is unable to notify the other judges, the judge longest in
continuous service who is available shall provide such notice, and the judge
longest in continuous service who is available shall be the acting chief judge,
and perform such duties during the chief judge&#8217;s absence. If two or more
judges of such district court have served for the same period, the judge most
senior in years shall be the acting chief judge. Upon assuming such duties, the
acting chief judge shall immediately notify the Executive Secretary of the
Supreme Court and the other judges of such district court.
		When the chief judge is able to resume the duties of chief judge, the chief
judge shall immediately notify the Executive Secretary and the other judges of
such district court, and thereupon shall resume such duties.
