SPECIAL COUNSEL FOR DEFENSE OF LAW-ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS (§ 46.2-220)

If any law-enforcement officer appointed by the Commissioner is arrested,
indicted, or prosecuted on any charge arising out of any act committed in the
discharge of his official duties, the Commissioner may employ special counsel
approved by the Attorney General to defend him. The compensation for special
counsel employed pursuant to this section shall, subject to approval of the
Attorney General, be paid out of the funds appropriated for the administration
of the Department.
