MISDEMEANANT SUSPECTED OF HAVING CONTAGIOUS DISEASE (§ 53.1-22)

Whenever any court shall have reason to believe that a person convicted by it of
a misdemeanor who is sentenced to serve time in a local correctional facility is
afflicted with any contagious or infectious disease dangerous to the public
health, the court shall have such person examined by a licensed physician or
licensed advanced practice registered nurse. If the examination reveals the
person is afflicted with such disease, the court may commit the person directly
to the Department.
