QUALIFICATIONS OF ASSESSORS AND APPRAISERS; REMOVAL AND APPOINTMENT OF
SUBSTITUTE (§ 58.1-3276)

A. Any persons appointed to a board of assessors under the authority of this
article shall be freeholders in the county or city for which they serve and
shall be appointed by the governing body from the citizens of the county or
city. If at any time the governing body is satisfied that any such assessor
appointed under this article will not, or from any cause cannot, perform the
duties devolved on him, the governing body may wholly supersede him and appoint
another in his place. In order to be eligible for appointment, each prospective
member of such board may, at the discretion of the Department, be required to
attend and participate in the basic course of instruction given by the
Department under &#xA7; 58.1-206.

B. All supervisors, appraisers, and personnel employed by the board of assessors
to perform the general reassessment shall have the qualifications prescribed by
the Department for the particular position held, which shall include such
combinations of education, training and experience as are deemed necessary for
the performance of their duties. The provisions of this article as to the
appointment or removal of such assessors shall apply to any appointments
heretofore or hereafter made.

C. All supervisors, assessors and appraisers who have been contracted by the
board of assessors to perform the general reassessment shall hold a valid
certification issued by the Department pursuant to &#xA7; 58.1-3258.1.
