DEPARTMENT OF FORENSIC SCIENCE CREATED; DIRECTOR (§ 9.1-1100)

There is hereby created in the executive branch of state government, a
Department of Forensic Science (the Department), which formerly existed as a
division within the Department of Criminal Justice Services. The Department
shall be headed by a Director appointed by the Governor, subject to confirmation
by the General Assembly if in session when such appointment is made, and if not
in session, then at its next succeeding session. In making his appointment, the
Governor shall choose a candidate meeting the qualifications recommended by the
Forensic Science Board created pursuant to § 9.1-1109. The Director shall serve
for a term of six years, or until his successor shall be appointed and
qualified. Any vacancy shall be filled for the unexpired term in the same manner
as the original appointment.
		The Director, under the direction and control of the Governor, shall exercise
the powers and perform the duties conferred or imposed upon him by law and
perform such other duties required by the Governor or requested by the Forensic
Science Board created pursuant to § 9.1-1109.
