History

This law was first created in 1980. The record of its establishment is cataloged in chapter 469 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1980 “Acts” aren’t available online. It has been modified 11 times. Those modifications are cataloged by “The Acts of Assembly,” a state publication, by year and chapter. Those modifications that can be read on the General Assembly’s website will be linked accordingly. Those modifications are as follows: in 1982, chapter 646; in 1983, chapter 85; in 1984, chapter 263; in 1988, chapter 806; in 1989, chapter 727; in 1990, chapter 522; in 1993, chapters 995 and 998; in 1995, chapters 836 and 851; in 2002, chapter 322; in 2012, chapters 216 and 824; in 2024, chapters 634 and 676.
