§ 8.01-220.1 Defense of interspousal immunity abolished as to certain causes of action arising on or after July 1, 1981

The common-law defense of interspousal immunity in tort is abolished and shall not constitute a valid defense to any such cause of action arising on or after July 1, 1981.

History

This law was first created in 1981. The record of its establishment is cataloged in chapter 451 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1981 “Acts” aren’t available online.

1981, c. 451.
