§ 10.1-2201 Department created; appointment of Director; Director to serve as State Historic Preservation Officer
There is hereby created a Department of Historic Resources. The Department shall be headed by a Director. The Director shall be appointed by the Governor to serve at his pleasure for a term coincident with his own. The Director shall be subject to confirmation by the General Assembly if it is in session when the appointment is made, and if not then in session, at the next succeeding session. The Director shall also serve as the State Historic Preservation Officer for the purposes of carrying out the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (P.L. 89-665), as amended.
History
This law was first created in 1989. The record of its establishment is cataloged in chapter 656 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1989 “Acts” aren’t available online.
