Opium poppy and poppy straw. Coca leaves and any salt, compound, derivative, or preparation of coca leaves, and any salt, compound, derivative, or preparation thereof which is chemically equivalent or identical with any of these substances, but not including decocainized coca leaves or extractions which do not contain cocaine or ecgonine; cocaine or any salt or isomer thereof. Concentrate of poppy straw, the crude extract of poppy straw in either liquid, solid or powder form, which contains the phenanthrene alkaloids of the opium poppy.

2. Any of the following opiates, including their isomers, esters, ethers, salts, and salts of isomers, whenever the existence of these isomers, esters, ethers and salts is possible within the specific chemical designation: Alfentanil; Alphaprodine; Anileridine; Bezitramide; Bulk dextropropoxyphene (nondosage forms); Carfentanil; Dihydrocodeine; Diphenoxylate; Fentanyl; Isomethadone; Levo-alphacetylmethadol (levo-alpha-acetylmethadol)(levomethadyl acetate)(LAAM); Levomethorphan; Levorphanol; Metazocine; Methadone; Methadone — Intermediate, 4-cyano-2-dimethylamino-4, 4-diphenyl butane; Moramide — Intermediate, 2-methyl-3-morpholino-1, 1-diphenyl-propane-carboxylicacid; Oliceridine; Pethidine (other name: meperidine); Pethidine — Intermediate — A, 4-cyano-1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidine; Pethidine — Intermediate — B, ethyl-4-phenylpiperidine-4-carboxylate; Pethidine — Intermediate — C, 1-methyl-4-phenylpiperidine-4-carboxylic acid; Phenazocine; Piminodine; Racemethorphan; Racemorphan; Remifentanil; Sufentanil; Tapentadol; Thiafentanil.

4. Unless specifically excepted or unless listed in another schedule, any material, compound, mixture, or preparation which contains any quantity of the following substances having a depressant effect on the central nervous system, including its salts, isomers, and salts of isomers whenever the existence of such salts, isomers, and salts of isomers is possible within the specific chemical designation: Amobarbital; Glutethimide; Secobarbital; Pentobarbital; Phencyclidine.

5. The following hallucinogenic substances: Nabilone; Dronabinol ((-)-delta-9-trans tetrahydrocannabinol) in an oral solution in a drug product approved for marketing by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

6. Unless specifically excepted or unless listed in another schedule, any material, compound, mixture, or preparation which contains any quantity of the following substances which are: a. History

This law was first created in 1972. The record of its establishment is cataloged in chapter 798 of that year’s edition of “Acts of Assembly,” the annual state publication listing all changes made to the Code of Virginia in that year. Unfortunately, the 1972 “Acts” aren’t available online. It has been modified 20 times. Those modifications are cataloged by “The Acts of Assembly,” a state publication, by year and chapter. Those modifications that can be read on the General Assembly’s website will be linked accordingly. Those modifications are as follows: in 1976, chapter 614; in 1977, chapter 302; in 1978, chapter 833; in 1979, chapter 387; in 1981, chapter 30; in 1984, chapter 192; in 1986, chapter 463; in 1988, chapters 283 and 765; in 1992, chapter 737; in 1994, chapter 763; in 1998, chapter 105; in 2000, chapter 135; in 2005, chapter 119; in 2008, chapter 74; in 2010, chapter 423; in 2011, chapter 700; in 2017, chapter 612; in 2019, chapter 85; in 2022, chapters 114 and 115; in 2024, chapters 62 and 228.
